Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Television remains one of the most influential mediums for shaping public opinion on national issues. With its ability to combine visual and auditory stimuli, television captures audiences’ attention and provides a platform for discussions on politics, governance, economy, and social matters. In Karu Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, television plays a critical role in informing and educating residents on pressing national issues. This study investigates how television influences public opinion in Karu LGA, exploring its strengths, limitations, and overall impact on national discourse.

Despite the widespread availability of television, its role in shaping public opinion on national issues in Karu LGA has not been thoroughly examined. While television has the potential to inform and unify audiences, it may also perpetuate misinformation or exacerbate political divides. The study focuses exclusively on the role of television in shaping public opinion on national issues within Karu Local Government Area, Nasarawa State. It does not include other regions or media platforms.
